The 80th Anniversary of Korea's Liberation Day l 제80주년 8.15 광복절

광복 80주년을 맞아 뉴저지 버겐카운티 청사 앞 광장에서 8·15 광복절 경축식이 성대하게 열렸다. 이번 행사는 뉴저지한인회와 버겐카운티가 공동 주관했으며, 한인 동포들과 미 주류 인사들이 대거 참석해 자리를 빛냈다. 이날 오전 11시부터 진행된 기념식에서는 태극기 게양식과 함께 참석자 전원이 “대한민국 만세”를 외치며 조국 광복의 의미를 되새겼다.

이대우 뉴저지한인회장은 “광복 80주년을 맞아 조국의 독립을 기리는 이 자리에 많은 한인동포 여러분들이 함께 해 더욱 뜻깊다”고 밝혔다.

제임스 J. 테데스코 버겐카운티 최고 행정관은 축사를 통해 한인 커뮤니티의 기여에 감사를 전하며, 한미 양국의 우호 증진을 위한 협력 의지를 강조했다. 뉴욕총영사관에 새로 부임한 김제중 신임 영사가 이재명 대통령의 광복절 경축사를 대독하였다.

이날 행사에서는 배광수 한국재향군인회 미국북동부지부 회장, 이종원 월남참전 참전자회 뉴저지 지회, 이병준 뉴저지 베트남전참전전우회, 이응철 VFW(Veterans of Foreign Wars), 최충현 대한민국해병대전우회 재미뉴저지지회, 최현철 에어 프레미어 지점장, 차영자 뉴저지한인상록회 회장, 이남희 나폴리 레스토랑 대표, 마영애 탈북자회 회장 등 10명의 유공자와 기업 공로 봉사자로 상장이 수여되었으며 뉴저지 한인회 차세대 봉사자들로부터 꽃다발을 받았다.

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day, a grand commemorative ceremony was held in the plaza in front of the Bergen County Administration Building in New Jersey. The event was co-hosted by the Korean American Association of New Jersey and Bergen County, and it was attended by a large number of Korean American residents as well as prominent figures from the American mainstream community.

The ceremony began at 11 a.m. with the hoisting of the Taegeukgi (South Korean national flag), during which all attendees shouted, “Long live the Republic of Korea!” to honor and reflect on the significance of the country’s liberation.

Adrian Lee (Daewoo Lee), president of the Korean American Association of New Jersey, stated, “It is all the more meaningful that so many members of the Korean American community have come together to commemorate our homeland’s independence on this 80th anniversary.”

James J. Tedesco, Bergen County Executive, delivered a congratulatory address, expressing gratitude for the contributions of the Korean community and emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation to strengthen the Korea-U.S. friendship. Jejung Kim, the newly appointed Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York, read President Sukyeol Yoon’s Liberation Day message on his behalf.

During the ceremony, 10 individuals—including community leaders and corporate contributors—were honored with awards for their service. Among the awardees were Kwangsoo Bae, president of the Northeast U.S. chapter of the Korean Veterans Association; Jongwon Lee of the Vietnam War Veterans Association (New Jersey chapter); Byungjun Lee of the New Jersey Vietnam War Veterans Association; Eungchul Lee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW); Choonghyun Choi of the Republic of Korea Marine Corps Veterans Association (New Jersey chapter); Hyuncheol Choi, branch manager of Air Premia; Anne Cha-Kim, president of the Korean American Senior Citizens Association of New Jersey; Namhee Lee, representative of Napoli Restaurant; and Youngae Ma, president of the North Korean Defectors’ Association. They received certificates of recognition and were presented with bouquets by the next-generation volunteers of the Korean American Association of New Jersey.

The awards ceremony was jointly conducted by the Korean American Association of New Jersey and Bergen County. The event concluded solemnly and respectfully with the hoisting of the national flag and the singing of the Korean national anthem.

This year’s Liberation Day ceremony, co-hosted by the Korean American Association of New Jersey and Bergen County, served as a powerful reminder of the unity and identity of the Korean American community, with broad participation from Korean organizations and local institutions.
